Renault Clio: Front brake pads: Removal - Refitting
EQUIPMENT LEVEL E3 LEISURE or EQUIPMENT LEVEL EA1 or EQUIPMENT LEVEL EA2
or EQUIPMENT
LEVEL EA3 or EQUIPMENT LEVEL EA4 or EQUIPMENT LEVEL EA5 or EQUIPMENT LEVEL EAG
When replacing brake pads, be sure to replace the
pads on the opposite side.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle: Towing and
lifting).
- Unlock the steering column.
- Remove the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, 35A-1).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove the lower guide pin bolt (1) while holding the nut (2).
- Unclip the brake hose (3) from the shock absorber.
- Tilt the calliper upwards.
- Remove the pads.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Check the thickness of the pads (see 30A, General
information, Brake: Specifications, 30A-9).
- Replace any faulty parts.
- Clean the calliper mountings.
- Clean the callipers.
- Push the piston.
- Always replace the guide pin bolts after each removal.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Fit the pads, starting from the inside.
- Tilt the calliper downwards to return it to its original
position.
- Refit the new guide pin bolt.
- Tighten to torque the guide pin bolt (32 Nm).
- Secure the brake hose to the shock absorber.
WARNING
Do not twist the brake hose.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, 35A-1).
IMPORTANT
Depress the brake pedal several times to bring
the pistons, brake pads and discs into contact.

IMPORTANT
To avoid all risk of damage to the systems, apply
the safety and cleanliness instructions and operation
recommendations before carrying out any
repair:

REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (02A, Lifting equipment).
- Set the wheels straight ahead.
- Remove the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, 35A-1).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove:
- the brake pad retaining pins (1),
- the spring (2),
- the brake pads.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Measure the thickness of the pads and then compare
them to the minimum values (see 30A, General
information, Brake: Specifications, 30A- 9).
- Do not allow friction materials to come into contact
with grease, oil or other lubricants and cleaning
products which are mineral oil based.
- Clean the callipers using a wire brush and BRAKE
CLEANER (see Vehicle: Parts and consumables
for the repair) (04B, Consumables - Products).
- Push the pistons back until they are at the end of
their bores.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Fit the new brake pads starting from the inside.
- Refit:
- the spring,
- the brake pad retaining pins.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the front wheels (see 35A, Wheels and tyres,
Wheel: Removal - Refitting, 35A-1).
WARNING

After any operation, check that there are no diesel
fuel leaks
Reprime the diesel circuit using the priming pump.
Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 392, 80A, Battery).
Remove the engine protector.
Disconnect the inlet air pressure sensor (1)
Remove
LEFT-HAND DRIVE, and WITHOUT ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM

Remove:
the engine cover,
the engine undertray,
the air filter unit air inlet pipe,
