Renault Clio: Heater matrix: Removal - Refitting
LEFT-HAND DRIVE
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Place hose clamps (Ms. 583) on the heater matrix hoses at (1).
- Remove:
- the heater matrix hose clips,
- the heater matrix hoses,
- the centre console (see Centre console: Removal
- Refitting) (MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment).
- Unclip the trim at the base of the dashboard at (2) and (3).
- Partially remove the door seal. (4)
- Remove the side panel (5).
- Remove the bolt (6) from the lower trim on the base
of the dashboard on the driver's side.
- Unclip the trim (7).
- Remove the bolts (8) from the dashboard lower trim
on the driver's side.
- Remove the dashboard lower trim on the driver's side (9).
- Disconnect the connectors (depending on equipment
level).
- Unclip:
- the fuse and relay box (10),
- the heating resistor relays (11).
- Lift the carpet to access the dashboard cross member
reinforcement bolts.
- Remove:
- the dashboard cross member reinforcement bolts (12),
- the dashboard cross member reinforcement (13).
- Put a protective cover on the carpet.
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove:
- the bolts (14) from the heater matrix pipe bracket
on the distribution unit,
- the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit.
- the heater matrix bolts (15).
- Remove the bolt (16) from the heater matrix pipe
bracket.
- Put a container in place to recover the coolant.
- Move the heater matrix and its piping to one side.
- Unclip the heater matrix pipe bracket (17) on the
heater matrix.
- Remove the heater matrix.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- Replace the seals (18) between the pipes and the
heater matrix.
WARNING
To avoid any leaks, check that the pipe surface is
sound before positioning the new seal. The surface
must be clean and scratch free.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Refit:
- the heater matrix,
- the heater matrix pipes,
- the heater matrix bolts.
- Clip the heater matrix pipe bracket onto the heater
matrix.
- Refit:
- the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
- the bolts from the heater matrix pipe bracket on the
distribution unit,
- the bolt from the heater matrix pipe bracket.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit:
- the dashboard cross member reinforcement,
- the bolts from the dashboard cross member reinforcement.
- Torque tighten the dashboard cross member reinforcement
bolts (21 N.m).
- Refit the floor carpet.
Note:
Check that the floor carpet reaches under the
accelerator pedal end-stop.
- Clip on:
- heater resistor relays,
- the fuse and relay box.
- Connect the dashboard lower trim connectors on the
driver's side.
- Fit the dashboard lower trim on the driver's side.
- Refit:
- the dashboard lower trim bolts on the driver's side,
- the dashboard lower trim bolt.
- Clip on the driver's side dashboard lower cover trim
piece.
- Refit:
- the side panel,
- the door seal.
- Clip on the dashboard lower trim.
- Refit:
- the centre console (see Centre console: Removal
- Refitting) (MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment),
- the heater matrix hoses,
- the heater matrix hose clips.
- Remove the hose clamps (Ms. 583).
- Perform the following operations:
- top up the coolant (see Cooling system: Draining
- Refilling) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling),
- bleed the cooling system (see Cooling system:
Draining - Refilling) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling).
- Check the cooling system (see Engine cooling
system: Check) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling).
RIGHT-HAND DRIVE
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Place hose clamps (Ms. 583) on the heater matrix hoses at (1).
- Remove:
- the heater matrix hose clips,
- the heater matrix hoses,
- the centre console (see Centre console: Removal
- Refitting) (MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment).
- Unclip the trim at the base of the dashboard at (2) and (3).
- Remove the glovebox (see Glovebox: Removal -
Refitting) (MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment).
- Put a protective cover on the carpet.
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Remove:
- the bolts (4) from the heater matrix pipe bracket on
the heater matrix,
- the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
- the heater matrix bolts (5).
- Remove the bolt (6) from the heater matrix pipe
bracket.
- Put a container in place to recover the coolant.
- Move the heater matrix and its piping to one side.
- Unclip the heater matrix pipe bracket (7) on the heater
matrix.
- Remove the heater matrix.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION

- the heater matrix pipe bracket on the distribution
unit,
- the bolts from the heater matrix pipe bracket on the
distribution unit,
- the bolt from the heater matrix pipe bracket.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Refit the glovebox (see Glovebox: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment).
- Clip on the dashboard lower trim.
- Refit the centre console (see Centre console: Removal
- Refitting) (MR 393, 57A, Interior equipment).
- Refit:
- the heater matrix,
- the heater matrix pipes,
- the heater matrix bolts,
- the heater matrix hoses,
- the heater matrix hose clips.
- Remove the hose clamps (Ms. 583).
- Perform the following operations:
- top up the coolant (see Cooling system: Draining
- Refilling) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling),
- bleed the cooling system (see Cooling system:
Draining - Refilling) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling).
- Check the cooling system (see Engine cooling
system: Check) (MR 392, 19A, Cooling).

Position the vehicle on a two-post lift (see Vehicle:
Towing and lifting) (MR 392, 02, Lifting equipment).
Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(MR 392, 80A, Battery).
Remove the engine undertray.
