Renault Clio: Front seat base trim: Removal - Refitting
WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and DOCUMENTATION PHASE 1
IMPORTANT
Before carrying out any work on a safety or proximity
system component, lock the airbag computer
using the Diagnostic tool. When this
function is activated, all the trigger lines are disabled
and the airbag instrument panel warning
light is continuously lit (with the ignition on).
IMPORTANT
It is forbidden to work on pyrotechnic systems
(pretensioner or airbag) near a source of heat or
a naked flame; there is a risk of the airbags or
pretensioners being triggered.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(MR 394, 88C, Airbag and pretensioners).
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Precautions
for the repair) (MR 392, 80A, Battery).
- Remove the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
- Unclip the cover (1) from the seat height adjustment
handle.
- Remove:
- the bolts (2),
- the seat base height adjustment handle (depending
on equipment level).
- Remove the bolt (3).
- Unclip the front section (4) of the trim.
- Unclip the rear section of the trim.
- Remove the trim.
- Disconnect the connector (depending on equipment
level).
- Remove the elastic straps (5) securing the seatback
cover.
- Using a pair of unclipping pliers, unclip the seatback
adjustment handle.
- Unclip the seat base cover retaining strips (6).
- Remove:
- the cover at (7),
- the retaining strip (8).
- Unclip the retaining strips (9).
- Remove the " cover - foam " assembly.
- Turn the seat base cover over and cut the clips.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Refit:
- the mounting clips,
- the " cover-foam " assembly,
- the retaining strips,
- the seatback adjustment handle.
- Reattach the elastic straps (10) securing the seatback
cover.
- Fit:
- the side housing,
- the height adjustment handle.
II - FINAL OPERATION.
- Refit the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Precautions for
the repair) (MR 392, 80A, Battery).
- Unlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(MR 394, 88C, Airbag and pretensioners).
WITHOUT SPORT SEATS, and DOCUMENTATION PHASE 2
IMPORTANT
To avoid any risk of triggering when working on or
near a pyrotechnic component (airbags or pretensioners),
lock the airbag computer using the diagnostic
tool.
When this function is activated, all the trigger lines
are inhibited and the airbag warning light on the
instrument panel lights up continuously (ignition
on).
IMPORTANT
Never handle the pyrotechnic systems (pretensioners
or airbags) near to a source of heat or naked
flame - they may be triggered.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Lock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic tool
(see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbag and pretensioners).
- Disconnect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Remove the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
FRONT SEAT TYPE 02 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 03
or FRONT SEAT TYPE 05
- Remove the front seat height adjustment control
(see 75A, Front seat frames and mechanisms,
Front seat height adjuster control: Removal - Refitting, 75A-19).
- Remove the front seat base casing (see 77A, Front
seat trim, Front seat lower casing: Removal - Refitting, 77A-30).
- Remove the elastic securing straps (1) from the
seatback cover.
- Unclip the front seatback angle adjustment control at
(2) using the tool (Car. 1363).
- Unclip the retaining clip (3) from the front seat base
cover using the tool (Car. 1363).
II - OPERATION FOR REMOVAL OF PART
CONCERNED
B85
- Unclip:
- the retaining clip (4) from the front seat base cover
using the tool (Car. 1363),
- the side retaining sections (5) of the front seat base
cover,
- the front retaining section (6) of the front seat base
cover.
C85
- Unclip the clips (7) of the front seat base trim using
the tool (Car. 1363).
- Unclip the side retaining sections (8) of the front seat
base cover.
- Unclip the front retaining section (9) of the front seat
base cover.
FRONT SEAT WITH HEATING
- Unclip the heated pad connector (10).
- Disconnect the heated pad connector (10).
- Remove the " cover - foam " assembly from the
front seat base.
- Rotate the " cover - foam " assembly of the front
seat base.
- Cut the clips (11) on the front seat base trim.
- Remove the front seat base cover.
Note:
When separating the " cover - foam ", hold the
Velcro strips.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- parts always to be replaced: Seat trim clip.
WARNING
To avoid any risk of damaging the seat trims and
mechanisms, remove any metal residues of the
seat trim clips.
II - REFITTING OPERATION FOR PART
CONCERNED
- Refit the front seat base cover.
- Fit the new seat trim clips using the tool (Car. 1521)
on the side section.
- Refit the front seat base cover on the centre velcro
strip.
- Fit the new seat trim clips using the tool (Car. 1521)
on the opposite side section.
- Fold the cover over the foam starting with the front
corners.
- Pass one hand between the cover and the foam to
ensure that the side sections of the seat base foam
are correctly positioned
- Check that there are no folds in the cover.
- Fit the new seat trim clips using the tool (Car. 1521)
on the rear section.
- Refit the " cover - foam " assembly of the front seat
base.
FRONT SEAT WITH HEATING
- Connect the heated pad connector (10).
- Clip on the heated pad connector (10).
B85
- Clip:
- the front retaining section (6) of the front seat base
cover,
- the side retaining sections (5) of the front seat base
cover,
- the retaining clips (4) of the front seat base cover.
C85
- Clip:
- the front retaining section (9) of the front seat base
cover,
- the side retaining sections (8) of the front seat base
cover,
- the clips (7) on the front seat base trim.
- Clip on the retaining clip (3) of the front seat base
cover.
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Clip on the front seatback angle adjustment control.
- Refit:
- the elastic straps (1) securing the seatback cover,
- the front seat base casing (see 77A, Front seat
trim, Front seat lower casing: Removal - Refitting, 77A-30).
FRONT SEAT TYPE 02 or FRONT SEAT TYPE 03
or FRONT SEAT TYPE 05
- Refit the front seat height adjustment control (see
75A, Front seat frames and mechanisms, Front
seat height adjuster control: Removal - Refitting, 75A-19).
- Refit the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
- Connect the battery (see Battery: Removal - Refitting)
(80A, Battery).
- Unlock the airbag computer using the Diagnostic
tool (see Fault finding - Replacement of components)
(88C, Airbags and pretensioners).
SPORT FRONT SEATS
Note:
The Parts Department delivers the front seat base
cover assembled with the shell.
REMOVAL
I - REMOVAL PREPARATION OPERATION
- Disconnect the battery (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33) (80A, Battery).
- Remove the front seat (see 75A, Front seat frames
and mechanisms, Complete front seat: Removal
- Refitting, 75A-33).
Note:
Mark the routing of the front seat base electrical
wiring.
- Unclip the clips of the front seat base electrical wiring.
II - REMOVAL OPERATION
- Remove:
- the seat base frame bolts on the front seat base
shell,
- the " foam - cover - shell " assembly of the front
seat base.
REFITTING
I - REFITTING PREPARATION OPERATION
- parts always to be replaced: Front seat base
bolt.
- Check that the seat base cover edge is correctly
tucked into the front seat base shell.
Note:
If the seat base cover is detached from the front
seat base shell, clip the retaining sections on the
edge of the front seat base shell using a mallet.
II - REFITTING OPERATION
- Refit the " foam - cover - shell " assembly of the
front seat base.
- Torque tighten the new seat base frame bolts on
the front seat base shell (24 N.m).
III - FINAL OPERATION
- Proceed in the reverse order to removal.

Remove the rear bench seat base at (1).
